On March 17th, Waubay School proudly hosted the annual Spelling Bee and Math & Business Contest, welcoming students from several area schools, including Summit, Waverly-South Shore, Henry, Florence, Rosholt, and Wilmot.
Spelling Bee Success
Waubay had strong representation in the Spelling Bee, with students from grades 1 through 8 competing. Several participants placed in their respective grade divisions:
• 7th Grade: Aiden Butler – 3rd Place
• 5th Grade: Kaden Gaikowski – 1st Place, Hailey Butler – 3rd Place
• 4th Grade: Keisha Rencountre – 2nd Place
• 2nd Grade: Mallory Butler – 3rd Place, John Lesner – 5th Place
Other Waubay students who competed included Elise Aker (8th grade), Emma Christensen (7th grade), Dayzon Soldier and Jett Berger (6th grade), Shedrick Grisham (4th grade), Azrah Locke Seaboy and Aminah Womack (3rd grade), and Alex Bury and Harlan Holscher (1st grade).
Math & Business Contest Highlights
Several schools, including Waubay, Waverly-South Shore, Rosholt, Florence, Summit, and Great Plains Lutheran, participated in the Math & Business Contest.
In the business portion, Will Althoff was the sole Waubay representative, placing 4th in the Accounting I division.
Waubay also had a strong showing in the math competition, with the following students earning top placements:
• Algebra II: Will Althoff – 4th Place
• Geometry: Evan Aker – 3rd Place
• Algebra I: Sage Gaikowski – 4th Place
Other math competitors from Waubay included Hunter Bourassa, Payton Bourassa, Roman Thuringer, and Cash Gaikowski.
