NHS

Kayce Berger, Callie Weyh, and Will Althoff were inducted into the National Honor Society this past week. NHS is built on four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These 3 students joined NHS because they have shown the characteristics that NHS looks for in future members: responsibility, respect, and leadership. Throughout their high school years, the three have been exemplary, high-achieving, and hardworking students. NHS pushes students to stay focused and maintain a high grade average as the organization requires a GPA of 3.65 or higher in order to become and remain a member.

The organization also requires personal responsibility and determination to remain part of it: not only do members have to maintain strong grades and show the positive characteristics that reflect the four pillars, they are also required to complete service projects that help their local community. Not every student can join the organization, and the prestige of being a member looks good on résumés for future employers, but also on college applications as membership shows dedication to education, a strong character, and community involvement.

As for why the students decided to join the organization, Kayce said that she was excited to find ways to give back to the community, something she already does, with the hope that being an NHS member will help her pursue further volunteering opportunities. Callie said that she wanted to join as a way to stay dedicated and motivated in her schooling as she moves forward towards future education and career opportunities.

As for final thoughts on their present and future plans, and general advice for potential NHS applicants, Kayce advised that even the things that seem boring or silly can be important down the line and that hard work and good deeds don’t go unseen. Callie concurred, saying good scholarship isn’t about just passing classes, but also believing in personal ability to succeed, and that it is okay to mess up, but that students shouldn’t just give up and never try, and that making earnest attempts are important.

Will Althoff had no comment - he was busy studying.

Congratulations to Kayce Berger, Callie Weyh, and Will Althoff for making it into NHS and being role models for future members.
