students in learning activity

The 8th grade Physical Science class completed a chapter in science studying simple machines. We decided to put their knowledge to the test. The students were paired up and created their own Rube Goldberg machines. A Rube Goldberg machine is a chain-reaction type machine intentionally designed to perform a simple task in an indirect and overly complicated way. The students were tasked with using at least two of the six simple machines we studied. They knocked it out of the park. We were also reminded that science consists of continually asking questions to get answers. Not every machine performed in the manner the students were expecting.
